The tribes in Biomutant are a very central mechanic in the game’s themes and overall story. There are a total of six tribes in the game and every one of them can either be joined or conquered. The player can earn tribe outfits and tribe weapons, with the former only received by joining a tribe and the latter earned either by joining or conquering. Each tribe also has its own Aura scores, just like the main character. However, this doesn’t act as a restriction or pre-requisite in joining a tribe.

While the overall gameplay of this open-worldRPG title will more or less remain the same regardless of which tribe the player will ally themselves with, gauging which of them is better than the rest ultimately boils down to their rewards. Early in the game, although the player is given only the Myriad and Jagni tribes as choices on which tribe to join, the player can instead roam the world themselves to seek out the other tribes first. These are all the tribes in the game, ranked from worst to best.

6 Myriad

Myriad is the Maximum Light Aura tribe in the game. They value respect and true commitment to justice, honor, and compassion. They will push the player to make Light Aura choices if they side with them. Their goal is to unite the tribes, defeat the Worldeaters, and save the Tree of Life. Those who want to ally themselves with the Myriad Tribe can find their main outpost in Sector 3C.

The Myriad Tribe’s weapon is the Myriad Tribe Boomerang. This ranged weapon has high base damage, but it isn’t a very effective ranged combat approach in fighting against hordes of enemies. Their tribe outfit set offers decent resistance to hypoxia, biohazard, and radioactive.

5 Pichu

The Pichu Tribe has a Somewhat Dark Aura, which clouds their capacity to determine what is morally right or wrong. It is their belief that only the strong survive the world and they fully support the idea of natural evolution. They seek to vanquish the tribes and allow the Worldeaters to destroy the Tree of Life. Their main outpost is located in Sector 12G.

The tribe weapon of the Pichu is the Pichu Tribe Nunchuk. This melee weapon is considerably underwhelming compared to the other weapons the player can just craft or loot from the game’s world.

4 Lotus

The Lotus tribe has a Maximum Dark Aura. The members of this tribe show a complete lack of empathy towards other lifeforms and they are seemingly driven by chaos. They seek to build a perfect order and they believe the only way to do that is to subdue the other tribes, as well as allow the Worldeaters to destroy the Tree of Life.

For a tribe so drawn to chaotic nature, their tribe weapon is underwhelmingly unremarkable. Their tribe weapon is the Lotus Shuriken, a ranged weapon with high accuracy and fire rate. While it can be entertaining playing around with this weapon for a few encounters, it won’t take long for the player to realize this weapon’s lack of potential. Those who want to join this tribe can find their main outpost in Sector 8K.

3 Jagni

The Jagni Tribe is clouded in Dark Aura. Their members lack a sense of commitment and are only ever interested in self-indulgence. The tribe’s main goal is to become omnipresent and feared throughout the world. True to their inclination, they want to vanquish the other tribes and let the Worldeaters devour and destroy the Tree of Life.

The Jagni’s Tribe weapon is the Jagni Tribe Staff. This melee weapon has considerable damage and a high attack speed. If acquired early, this weapon can be useful until the player reaches the later parts of the game. This weapon also has a couple of interesting Wung-Fu abilities. Their main outpost is located in Sector 4B, should the player wish to side with this Dark tribe.

2 Ankati

The Ankati Tribe is Light natured. Their members have a natural respect for life and they believe solidarity should be embraced to keep the world in balance. Like the other Light Aura tribes in the game, they want to defeat the Worldeaters in order to save the Tree of Life. Their main outpost is located at Sector 7B.

Their tribe weapon is the Ankati Bow, a remarkably unique ranged weapon. Bow users will find this weapon very worthwhile and engaging to use, but it’s far from the best ranged weapon the player can pick up in the game.

1 Netra

The Netra Tribe embraces a Somewhat Light Aura. This tribe knows the meaning of being the best version one can be and their willingness to help others in need is evident. They value liberty and freedom. It is their goal to separate the tribes, defeat the Worldeaters, and save the Tree of Life.

Netra’s tribe weapon is very unconventional, but it is the perfect companion piece to any melee user. The Netra Tribe Grabbler will fire a grappling hook towards an opponent with high accuracy and draw them back towards the player. It doesn’t function in the exact same way as the other ranged weapons in the game, but in certain situations, it can be the perfect off-hand weapon.
