BH series number plates is a new series number plates in India. Vehicles with Bharat series number plates will be the same pan-India. Currently, there are state specific number plates with initials of a state’s names like, DL, WB, UP, PB etc. While, BH will stand for Bharat.

The format of BH number plates is YY BH **** XX. Here, YY stands for the year of first registration. Secondly, BH stands for Bharat. Thirdly, **** denotes random numbers. Further, XX denotes alphabets.

Advantages of BH series number plates:

  • The number plates with BH series is an advantage for the vehicle owners with transferrable jobs. Such vehicles require a re-registration in the relocated state within 12 months. Thus, the BH number plates are a respite to those who have to move frequently.
  • A vehicle owner with regular number plate pays tax for 15 years. However, owners with this series of number plates will pay tax only for 2 years.
  • Further, sales of vehicles with Bharat series plates is easier and so is the transfer of ownership.
  • Overall, the national road transport and highway system shall advance towards a seamless experience.

How to get these number plates?

There are two main conditions, on fulfilment of which an owner can avail Bharat series number plates.

  • The owner of the vehicle must be an employee in central/state government, central/state PSUs, defence personal, private sector or organisation.
  • Further, the organisation must have offices located in more than five states.
  • For registration, users must register online through Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Government of India (morth.nic.in).
