Betty White, a beloved actress, comedian, and American icon, died just weeks before her milestone birthday… TMZ has discovered.
Betty died at her house shortly before 9:30 a.m. on Friday, according to law enforcement sources.
Betty was a media trailblazer and pioneer, with the longest-running career of any woman on television previous to her death, starring in several series over the course of eight decades, beginning in 1939.
Betty is best known for her role as Rose Nylund in the television series “The Golden Girls,” which lasted from 1985 to 1992. Throughout her life, she’d appeared in a slew of additional major hits.
Betty had roles in shows and films such as “Life with Elizabeth,” “Date with the Angels,” “The Love Boat,” “Mama’s Family,” “The Golden Palace,” “Ladies Man,” “That ’70s Show,” “Higglytown Heroes,” “Boston Legal,” “The Bold and the Beautiful,” “Pound Puppies,” “Hot in Cleveland,” and many, many more.
Betty received five Primetime Emmy Awards, including two for ‘Mary Tyler Moore,’ one for “Golden Girls,” and one for her 1975 appearance on ‘SNL,’ as well as Screen Actors Guild Awards, American Comedy Awards, and even a Grammy in 2012.
She’s been nominated for a number of Golden Globe Awards and has received numerous Lifetime Achievement Awards and honours from various organisations.
Betty was last caught on video in 2012, when she was announcing the opening of her Facebook page.
Betty had been extra cautious during the pandemic, usually staying at home and passing the time by reading, watching TV, and solving crossword puzzles, as we previously reported.
Betty was 99 years old and would have been 100 on January 17th.
