Season 2 of Batwoman wrapped up in an incredibly intense finale, leaving the audience on a devastating cliffhanger. Showrunner Caroline Dries discussed the insane finale, pitfalls of the season, and what fans can look forward to in season 3.
For fans who haven’t watched the final episode of Batwoman season 2 yet, Dries discussed numerous spoilers about the hour and explained that the season finale is the end of the road for the original Kate Kane story. Season 1 of Batwoman originally focused around Kate Kane (Wallis Day), the natural vigilante cousin of Bruce Wayne who replaces his role in Gotham after his absence. Kane had originally lost all of her memory, allowing the iconic Ryan Wilder to step up to the challenge as Batwoman in the second season. Kate regains her memory thanks to Ryan and Alice but decides it is more important to go searching for the ever-elusive Bruce Wayne.
Batwoman is a pioneering show in many respects, however, some fans were disappointed by the lack of an intimate lesbian love story in the second season. Dries addresses this issue stating that the production of the show had to hold back a majority of intimacy between actresses due to protocols surrounding the pandemic. She also teases a more in-depth love story in the third season but does not clarify between who. There is no telling what the instantly iconic Ryan will face in the third season with so many imminent threats.
No matter what the future holds for Batwoman, it appears Dries and the team behind the show have plenty of exciting stories and characters waiting for the third season. So, if anyone was disappointed to hear that Kate Kane’s storyline has come to an end, there will still be many more DC characters to focus on when the series returns.
Batwoman season 3 is set to premiere on The CW on October 13, 2021.
