Electronic Arts is getting ready to launch Battlefield 2042 next month, and new information about the FPS continues to be drip-fed. One recently revealed detail gives Battlefield fans some personal details about the Specialists known as Emma “Sundance” Rosier.

According to the Lead Community Manager Adam Freeman, the Battlefield 2042 Specialist Sundance is non-binary and uses they/them pronouns. The announcement that Sundance is non-binary followed several inquiries about their gender based on the they/them pronouns that DICE was using. The Specialists of Battlefield 2042 already show racial diversity, and it looks like DICE and EA are ensuring that there’s gender diversity as well.

Ten specialists are coming to Battlefield 2042 at launch and players will likely learn more about their backgrounds before the release of the next title in the popular FPS series. DICE and EA recently revealed some details about Battlefield 2042’s Specialists, with Sundance having a wingsuit and smart explosives. The wingsuit allows players to glide through the sky after jumping from a high point. The smart explosives target enemy vehicles once thrown in order to do significant damage to ATVs, armored tanks, trucks, and more.

Battlefield 2042 open beta players only had access to the four Specialists that reflected Battlefield’s traditional classes. The Medic in Battlefield 2042 is known as Maria Falck, the Recon Specialist is called Navin Rao, the Engineer Specialist’s name is Pyotr Guskovsky, and finally, the Assault Specialist is called Santiago Espinoza. While Battlefield 2042 open beta critics took some issues with these Specialists, DICE was quick to suggest that the full roster of ten Specialists will balance things a little better.

Sundance was among one of the Specialists that DICE recently revealed as the rest of Battlefield 2042’s roster at launch. Kimble Graves is a returning Battlefield character who specializes in fortifications, Webster Mackay will nimbly climb tall structures with his grappling hook, Constantin Anghel quickly resupplies his allies, and Ji-soo Paik is a Battlefield 2042 Specialist with a new tool called the EMG-X Scanner that allows players to see enemies through walls. A successful Battlefield 2042 squad will have a mix of these specialists in order to synergize during the hard gunfights.

More games are becoming inclusive and it isn’t strange to see a Battlefield 2042 Specialist that identifies as non-binary. Other titles that have embraced the non-binary community include Apex Legends, Borderlands 3, and Celeste. Sundance is the first non-binary character in Battlefield history, setting a precedent that may continue with future Battlefield 2042 Specialists.

Battlefield 2042 releases for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on November 19.
