Battlefield 2042 has many new features, including a new specialist mechanic that allows players to pick a character with unique has abilities. Sadly this wasn’t enough to keep players happy at launch, but hopefully, over time these specialists will make the game better. It certainly changes up the dynamic of Battlefield 2042, as it adds variation to matches.
With these new specialists, players can have the upper hand over their opponents just based on who they pick. Not all the specialists are going to be easy for players, as many have steep learning curves and some are intended for seasoned players. This list should give players an idea of where each specialist stands in terms of effectiveness.
10 Navin Rao
Navin Rao acts as a tech specialist who can hack into enemy equipment and render it useless via his Cyber Warfare Suits. The downside is that it takes some time for it actually work, giving enemy players time to find who’s hacking them and kill them.
He can be effective once players master his skills, which are mostly hacking and disruption. He also gets a Trojan Network ability, which acts like a UAV. This gives him and the rest of the team a more pinpoint display of where the enemies are. This ability can be extremely useful, provided his squad at least is communicating with one another.
9 Boris
Boris works great for players who want to defend a point. This is because Boris’s abilities are intended for defense. He can drop his sentry gun to stop players from coming into the defended point, which is beneficial on defense.
His sentry operator ability helps out the team as well. As long as the turret is on the field, Boris can aim and the sentry gun will aim in the same direction. The downside is that his sentry gun doesn’t do a lot of damage; however, it’s good for suppresive fire, and focusing on a point with help.
8 Dozer
Dozer is beneficial in Battlefield 2042. Amid all the chaos of warfare, he can defend himself well with grenades and rocket launchers. His passive Blast Resistance makes him a problem for the other team. Since grenades and tank attacks already do a lot of damage, this trait makes him a threat since he’s harder to take down.
For more damage protection, Dozer’s blast shield deflects small weapons like sidearms. Combing these two things makes it harder for the enemy to deal with him, since his threshold for taking damage is higher than a lot of the other specialists. Giving him a good main weapon makes him even more unstoppable.
7 Falck
In the other Battlefield games, the medic and support classes play a pretty important role, since they can bring players. That still applies in Battlefield 2042. but now all specialists can revive players. Falck, however, can immediately revive players to full health.
Her S12 Syrette Pistol can heal players at range as well, plus she can heal herself with it. While she doesn’t have much going for her in terms of offense, she can keep her team alive much longer through her support mechanics.
6 Ji-Soo Paik
Ji-soo can be really powerful if used correctly. Her abilities basically give her and her teammates foresight on what to expect. Once enemies players are damaged, her Threat Perception comes into play. This ability shows players the enemy’s health and location, plus it allows her and the team to see through walls.
Her EMF X- Scanner is also quite an issue for the enemy team, since it shows enemies taking cover, albeit only for a few seconds. Pairing her with another specialist works well; for example, someone like Dozer can go after after the enemies she tags.
5 Irish
Irish is a fan favorite, because of his lore and how he is connected to Battlefield 4. He is also quite popular in multiplayer — he’s a lot like Dozer, but is capable of more. For example, while Dozer has a shield, Irish can build fortifications. This is really useful behind enemy lines, since Irish can build fortification and is able to hold that position.
When defending a point, Irish is an even bigger problem for the enemy team, since he can make barriers over and over again. He can take a lot of damage with his Veteran trait, which allows him to run in and be the tank for the team.
4 Casper
Casper is probably the most unique specialist in Battlefield 2042. His traits and abilities are unique to him. As a recon specialist, he’s good at distance sniping enemies; additionally, he’s most effective when the team is communicating. His traits are powerful for his class, and he has a movement sensor that helps not only his teammates, but himself as well.

If players are busy sniping enemies, they can get an alert showing that an enemy is approaching them. This allows them to reposition and stay out of harm’s way. This also allows Casper to call out to teammates if they’re being attacked. His drone also helps the team, since it can spot enemies showing their location all while the enemies have been EMPED.
3 Sundance
Sundance is quite fun and easy to get used to. Their mobility makes them a threat to the opposing team, and their grenade abilities give them an edge over others. Their wingsuit is a welcome feature in Battlefield 2042, because it allows Sundance to zip around quickly and flank the enemy. It can also get them out of hot situations pretty fast.
Their Smart Explosive ability not only increases damage, but it can also be crucial in taking down vehicles. They also have a drone that can help give Sundance an idea of where the enemy is.
2 Angel
Angel is basically the total package. He can resupply, heal and give armor. Like Falck, he can bring back enemies quickly and with full health, but unlike Falck, players that he revives not only come back with full health, but also full armor. He can drop crates that can allow his team to change their loadout on the fly without dying.
Picking the right specialists helps level up fast, Angel does it even quicker. Anyone playing him will be busy running around resupplying and bringing back downed teammates, so he while he’s a supporting character, he can help defend on his own as well.
1 Webster Mackay
Mackay is a really mobile specialist. His play style is centered around being quick, and his grapple hook can offer advantages by getting players to high, otherwise untouchable places. Being nimble and the most out-there specialists makes him the best one in Battlefield 2042.
Everything about him is touch and go. Players must fire quick and zip out of there as fast as possible; adding the grapple hook makes him a pretty serious threat. A lot of maps in Battlefield 2042 have a lot of high places which are hard to reach, but the grapple hook allows Mackay to get on those spots and do damage from up there while avoiding most censors.
