Since the director Damien Chazelle first arrived in Los Angeles 15 years ago, he has been developing the plot for Babylon, at least in his mind. A critical period in the history of Hollywood was the 1920s. Los Angeles was growing into a big city, and the movie business, which was transitioning from silent to talkies, was teeming with people vying for power, fortune, and celebrity.
When Chazelle first relocated from New York to Los Angeles a decade and a half ago, he lacked none of those things. His breakthrough Sundance performance in Whiplash, which earned JK Simmons an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of a volatile jazz instructor, hadn’t happened yet, nor had he become the youngest person to ever win the Best Director Oscar for La La Land.
Cast of Babylon
Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie co-star, with Robbie playing a famous figure from the Roaring Twenties and Pitt as a silent movie star. The impressive cast also includes Samara Weaving (The Babysitter), Max Minghella (The Handmaid’s Tale), Olivia Wilde (Don’t Worry Darling), Jean Smart (Mare of Easttown), Flea (Baby Driver and Red Hot Chilli Peppers), and Tobey Maguire (Spider-Man).
Release Date of Babylon
On January 6, 2023, Babylon will be released in UK theatres, making it the ideal antidote to the depressing end of the holiday season.
