Role-playing games resonate with anyone who wants to be a hero in their own story. Some of the first computer games were based on table-top RPGs, though it took a few decades for the technology to catch up with the imagination of a thriving community of players. Today there’s a variety of RPG video games to choose from, and like the detailed adventuring modules on which they are based, there are a number of secrets to be found for players who take the initiative to explore and discover.
Players are just starting to find some of the hidden details in Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous. The game has plenty of hidden secrets that players aren’t aware of until they stumble across hem. There are secret quests, forgotten locations, reluctant companions, and even hot dates waiting to be found.
10 Become a Golden Dragon
Mythic Paths are options in the game that lead to some interesting twists in the story. Some are obvious and are presented to the player earlier in the game, while other choices don’t come up until later, and only then if the player has found certain specific items.
The Golden Mythic Dragon path is one of the latter. It doesn’t become available until Chapter 3, and only then after the player collects a few scales and a claw that formerly belonged to Terendelev and brings them to the storyteller. At that point he reveals a secret location to the character, unlocking the path.
9 Ride a Purple Dragon
Depressed that every dragon in this game seems to die in the first two chapters? Fear not. If the Mythic Path of the Azanti is open, players will be awarded an adorable dragon pet named Aovi. Not only does this handy companion reveal the super-secret fairy meeting place to the protagonist almost immediately, but does some pretty decent melee damage at lower levels.
That’s not all, however. After a few levels, Aovi gets big enough to become a rideable companion, so even if the main character isn’t a cavalier, they get a mount. And not just any mount, at that, but a majestic purple dragon.
8 Become A Swarm
The Lich was one of the evil Mythic Path options that everyone knew about, but the Swarm-That-Walks choice was discovered later. It allows the protagonist to become like the demon lord they’re fighting, Deskari, the Lord of Locusts.
It’s not appealing to everyone for obvious reasons, the least of which is the Evil Alignment requirement. This path is hard to both find and follow, not to mention that the first few steps involve picking up and saving some gross slime, using it to cause a plague.
7 Recruit a Demon
Some of the possible additions to the party are easy to find, either waiting at a local inn or one discovered in a random encounter. However, others can only be recruited through specific encounters and dialogue choices. The storyline eventually introduces the protagonist to a demon called Arueshalae, who’s locked up in Drezen.
She may be first discovered in the city as it’s being liberated, locked in a prison, but there’s also a vision of her that appears by combining some items found in the Lost Chapel location. She can only be recruited if there are certain special items related to Desna in the party’s inventory. Only expert players would have figured out exactly how to recruit her on their own.
6 Make Croissants
Not everyone appreciates the crafting part of the game, but some of the recipes the team enjoys are really unique. Individual characters even have their own favorite recipes. The recipe for Glowing Croissants doesn’t have a favorite listed, which means that everyone likes it.
In a world of soups and stews, a fluffy pastry is a nice change. The buff is nice, too, restoring the health of the characters more rapidly after they suffer an injury.
5 Take A Class In Pyrotechnics
No, not that kind of class. Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous gives the player the option to create certain characters that get most of their powers from creating and hurling explosives.
This isn’t the type of skill that a character picks up while specializing in something else. Experienced players that also have some knowledge of the Pathfinder table-top game can build a class that’s essentially an explosives expert, with builds starting in a variety of ways. The most obvious is to start with the Alchemist class and go from there, but other classes could have a similar build as long as they can brew potions.
4 Visit A Dragon Graveyard
The location of the Dragon Burial Ground is a closely guarded secret that only a few players find. Some are lucky enough to stumble across it, while others seek it out as an essential part of the Golden Dragon Mythic Path.
There are a few careful steps the protagonist has to take to get here in the first place, including slaying another dragon and enlisting the help of a gruff mercenary named Greybor. It’s not an easy task, but it’s too interesting to pass up.
3 Solve A Conundrum
It’s not exactly a secret that places like this exist in the countryside surrounding Drezen and Kerabres, but how to solve them is the real mystery. These puzzles aren’t only a diverting throwback to the puzzles that often appear in TTRPG modules. They’re also often connected to other secrets like the Mythic Paths or unique items.
These various puzzles are optional when it comes to completing the overall storyline, but they’re an awesome thing to do. Bring Nenio, the quirky Scroll Savant, with the party when it’s time to set out. She has a special appreciation for ancient mystery and having her there prompts extra dialogue.
2 Have A Date With An Angel
There are several romance options in the game, but there’s only one Aasimar listed among those choices. Not only is he just as beautiful as a descendant of an angel should be, but he’s also stinking rich and happens to be a fantastic cook.
There are a few catches to this because of course there are. To romance Daeran, players have to put up with his catty sense of humor, his Neutral Evil moral alignment, and the jealous, angry spirit known only as the Other who hides behind his golden eyes.
1 Find The Secret Ending
The exact details won’t be listed here because, well, they’re a secret, at least for now. However, the word is getting out about the secret ending, or endings, that exist at the conclusion of the game depending on the choices the protagonist makes.
More details about these storylines are coming to light as intrepid players finish them and return from Golarin to tell their stories. It’s epic, certainly, but not a shock as virtually every RPG ends in a similar way. Still, the hidden nature of this ending makes it worth hunting down.
