On Sunday night, the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards saw the metaverse come to life by Eminem and Snoop Dogg (August 28). The two rap legends collaborated on “From the D 2 the LBC” and performed it in a mind-blowing performance at this year’s annual celebration of music videos at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. Real-world examples opened the show. Em and Snoop shared a couch and Shady soon experienced a contact high from Snoop’s larger-than-life joint. Before the two were thrown into the metaverse, Em said, “Yo man, I feel like you’re getting me high again, bro.”
After performing a medley of “Not Afraid” and “Love the Way You Lie” with Rihanna in 2010, this performance was Eminem’s first VMAs participation in more than a decade. Snoop’s final cameo occurred in 2005 when he and Diddy performed Biggie’s “Warning.”
Unfortunately, neither Em nor Snoop went back to the VMAs stage to accept their awards. Nicki Minaj and Lil Baby’s “Do We Have a Problem” won the award for Best Hip Hop Video, defeating “From the D 2 the LBC,” which was nominated.
Eminem, Snoop Dogg, and other longtime collaborators Dr Dre were photographed in the studio earlier in August, raising anticipation for more 2001 magic from the group. Regarding his collaboration with Dre, Snoop recently told ET, “We’re cooking up a little something.” I don’t want to get into too much detail, but we are reuniting. We haven’t worked on a record in 30 years, but we’re still doing and working on things.
