The video-on-demand service Apple TV+ commissioned a mini-series based on WeWork’s saga, a joint office giant that almost went bankrupt after becoming a Wall Street lover, with Jared Leto playing the part of its vibrant former boss, Adam Neumann.
“WeCrashed: The Rise and Fall of WeWork,” will follow “the greed-filled rise and inevitable fall of WeWork, one of the world’s most valuable startups, and the narcissists whose chaotic love made it all possible,” Apple TV+ said in a statement.
Established in 2010, WeWork was built on the concept of shared office space, mixing accessibility with user-friendliness. A creative and revolutionary start-up, WeWork soon won over investors, hitting a potential value of $47 billion (roughly Rs. 3.42.664 crores) in January 2019.
The company was planning its entry to the New York Stock Exchange with a great deal of fanfare, but within weeks it had experienced a disastrous slump and had to cancel. Neumann, managing director and co-founder of the firm, publicity and sales visionary, but still a man inclined to excess and wild unpredictability, was on the front lines.
In order to save WeWork from bankruptcy, its biggest creditor, Japan’s SoftBank, had to pump some billion dollars and shun Adam Neumann aside.
Oscar winner Jared Leto, long used to colorful roles, will play Neumann opposite Anne Hathaway, also Oscar winner, who plays Neumann’s wife and WeWork’s co-founder, Rebekah, who has a personality as unpredictable as her husband’s. She, too, had to leave the band in 2019.
