Apex Legends has been experiencing an enormous amount of popularity over the past couple of months. Since the release of Season 12 on February 8, players have been enjoying many aspects of the new seasonal content, such as the new Legend Mad Maggie and the updated Olympus map. While this content has kept many entertained, the gameplay could be in for a change in only a couple of weeks.
With the start of Spring only a couple of days away, it means that April Fool’s Day is right around the corner as well. To celebrate the day of hijinks, sometimes video game developers release unexpected updates on April 1 to prank players, such as when Overwatch gave its characters googly eyes last year. Recently, one fan of Apex Legends came up with a perfect prank idea that the developers at Respawn Entertainment could use in the battle royale.
In a post on Reddit, a user known as Binkal shared an intriguing April Fool’s Day concept with the Apex Legends community. They proposed that for a 24-hour period, players should be allowed to equip any optic to any weapon of their choosing. To illustrate the wonderful madness of this concept, the Reddit user pointed out that it could be fun to try a 10x scope on an R-99, an SMG with a substantial amount of recoil. Furthermore, they included a concept image of a Wingman with what appeared to be a highly magnified scope attached to it.
Unsurprisingly, this unusual suggestion from Binkal piqued the curiosity of numerous members of the Apex Legends community on Reddit. With over 8,800 upvotes in only a couple of days, many seemed onboard with the idea as well. In addition, some said that it would make the game feel more like it did when it was first released, as players had more options when deciding what optic to equip to a gun. For example, some players brought up how SMGs, like the R-99, could have 3x and 2x4 scopes attached to them after launch.
It’s worth noting that Apex Legends has pulled April Fool’s Day pranks on its players in the past. For example, the developers introduced golden gun versions of the often underwhelming Mozambique and the P2020 into the battle royale in previous April Fool’s Day updates. These new and unexpectedly improved versions of the pistol and shotgun gave them more shots per magazine, along with having the Hammerpoint Rounds hop-up auto-equipped.
It will be interesting to see what the developers at Respawn Entertainment have planned for April Fool’s Day. Perhaps they will take the advice of the community and add this weapon sights update to the game. Regardless, fans should prepare for the unexpected in Apex Legends come April 1.
Apex Legends is available on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One, while a Mobile version is available in some regions.
