The rarest item in Apex Legends is the coveted Heirloom. These unique melee weapons give awesome animations and are bragging rights for Apex Legends players, whether it’s Octane’s butterfly knife, Wraith’s kunai, Pathfinder’s boxing gloves, and so on. Unfortunately, their rarity means that a lot of luck is involved as there is a less than 1% probability of obtaining them.

This luck factor is offset with two systems in Apex Legends: collection events and the pity system. Collection events introduce new heirlooms alongside other cosmetics, leading some to buy the heirloom (as is going on with Wattson’s heirloom right now). This means buying all the cosmetic packs, which come in at roughly $160 bucks. Otherwise, the pity system guarantees that players get 1 heirloom after opening 500 Apex packs, and a new chart shows how close day one players who have done everything are to this number.

According to calculations done by Redditor +_nevrmynd on the Mike Zaradona Apex Pack calculator, a day one player who has done everything is currently about 87% of the way to a guaranteed Heirloom (if they haven’t gone one based on luck). This means completing every Apex Legends Battle Pass, hitting level 500, collecting every free pack and event pack possible, and so on. Including completing this season’s Battle Pass, this means players are about 70 packs away from a guaranteed Apex Legends heirloom.

Given that Apex Legends was released in 2019, that’s a long time to still be 70 packs away. Day one players may be closer if they have bought packs in the store, but they are also likely further if they haven’t gotten every single thing possible. While this number reflects a day one player who has done everything in Apex Legends, players can modify and estimate their own percentages HERE.

The Apex Legends community may turn out to be a bit divided with these numbers. On the one hand, they are supposed to be rare (even if some can be directly bought essentially), but on the other hand, that’s a long time to be at 87%. Some may be especially soured given there are players out there with one, two, or far more based on sheer luck or funds.

It’ll be interesting to see, too, if Apex Legends ever shakes up the current heirloom system. Some players have argued for getting one at level 500, and this could be the case if Respawn ever increases the player level cap in Apex Legends again. Perhaps it’ll add them at a faster rate but add something like second heirlooms. It all remains to be seen, but for the hardcore and dedicated player, there are roughly 70 packs left once they complete the Apex Legends season 11 Battle Pass.

Apex Legends is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
